Afro Beat Music for the Lover of African Music

Invented in the 1970’s Afrobeat music, a rhythmic blend of traditional Nigerian and Ghanaian music, highlife, chanted vocals as well as jazz combined with a medley of vocal styles and percussion gained popularity during the 1960’s and 70’s.

Afrobeat is a genre of music that is predominantly a jazzy type of party music fast gaining popularity across the globe, particularly in the US and the UK with stars such as Kanye West singing the praises of this new funky composition of music.

Although it might seem to be a new sound – this type of music is easily identifiable with the Nigerian artist Fela Kuti, who was celebrated for his unconventional character, musical talent and involvement in post-colonial African politics.

In today’s modern world, this genre music has seen the creation of modern Afrobeat which can also be described as Afropop or popular Nigerian music often merged with fuji music, Juju hip-hop, r n B music as well as traditional Yoruba music.
